On October 12th 2012 the Upper Makefield Fire Company held their Fire Prevention Open House. This annual event was well attended by residents of the community who enjoyed popcorn, cookies and hot dogs while visiting with the local volunteer firefighters. Children had a chance to participate in a scavenger hunt for a chance to win a bicycle. Some of the events that the children participated in are “Stop, Drop & Roll”, Squirting the fire hose, Dialing 9-1-1 & Try on gear. There were also some questions that forced the children to go around the station and look at the apparatus and go in the different rooms. There was also a representative from St Lawrence Rehab that spoke to children and adults about head injuries and concussions and an ambulance from Capitol Health. Bucks County Emergency Communications Public Education representative Chuck Axt was on hand to properly teach children how and when to dial 9-1-1 with his phone simulator. The children can practice dialing 9-1-1 in a controlled situation and make sure they know their address (including the Township/Boro – not mailing address) telephone number and name, just like on a real call. Fire Extinguisher training was offered for those who wished to learn and the night was topped of with a auto extrication demonstration. Winner of the Scavenger Hunt Bicycle was Michael Godonis. Winner of the $50 Dicks Gif Card was William Godonis. Winner of the $25 Dicks Gift Card was Michael Pinho. Congradulations to all the Winners.
